Girlie Fall Baby Shower

So excited to share this sweet baby shower with you all! A few weeks ago a friend asked if we  could do cupcakes for her baby shower.. NOTE TO ALL FRIENDS AND FAMILY: NEVER, NEVER ask us to do “just cupcakes” 😛 😉  you will get way more than you bargained for! So, mama-to-be asked for “just cupcakes” and of course we went all out to celebrate the new little arrival!!! Her theme was “fall” and baby is a girl, so we took the rich autumn hues of brown, golden yellow, orange, and added a splash of deep fuchsia to get the “girlie” feel.. 😀

We did a custom gumpaste baby topper adorned with a tiny headband and flower and a matching gerbera daisy skirt and bed 🙂

The cake was two tiers decorated with handmade fondant leaves, branches, and gerbera daisies and of course the baby topper… (It looks lopsided on bottom, but not, weird angle of photo)

French Macarons – Marionberry and lemon.. They have become one of our specialties! Not many bakers will attempt to make them as they are finicky to make and have expensive ingredients. But they are WORTH it — SOOOO melt-in-your-mouth DELICOUS!!!!

And the whole spread! I love when a vision and idea come together! My neighbor made the adorable name banner, since she is so handy with the cricut, and I can’t scrapbook to save my life 😛 The hostess had done the flower arrangement and baby clothes hanging up, and with all our desserts the whole thing came together beautifully!

Pink & Yellow Girlie Vintage Monkey Party

This fun party was SO much fun to plan & style!!! I adore making the desserts and then styling a dessert/sweets table around it! So I took the very popular “monkey” theme, and put a simple, girlie, vintage spin on it!!

 

The color scheme was pastel pink & yellow with a few pops of teal/aqua. The décor included: gorgeous pink peonies in a vintage ball jar, fresh bananas, tissue poms, a “Go Bananas!” banner, and little pink & yellow details carried throughout the entire party…

 

Our cake creation was a two tier ombre ruffle cake featuring a hand sculpted girlie monkey topper!
Tier 1: Banana Cake with Bavarian Cream Filling and Buttercream Frosting
Tier 2: Pink Lemonade Cake with Raspberry Filling and Buttercream Frosting

 

The oh-so-adorable HAND SCULPTED gumpaste girlie monkey topper! She had a little curl, like the curly-haired birthday girl, and wore an adorable tutu, since the birthday girl LOVES to dress up in tutus! 🙂

And this is our NEW FLAVOR!!! — PINK LEMONADE!!! This cake is SOOO delicious!!! So refreshing and light, perfect for summer paired with raspberry filling (pictured) or a fresh strawberry filling!!! We use REAL homemade pink lemonade, no artificial drink powder to make this! As always, our cakes are made from QUALITY ingredients from SCRATCH, nothing from a mix, tub, or box!!!

CAKES!!! (and a recipe from Sabrina’s kitchen)

2013 has been our busiest year yet in baking!!! It has been a ton of work, but so much fun!!! Here are a few of our favorite event cakes from this year so far… (I will make a separate post for wedding cakes)

 

 

Now for the RECIPE!!!! I can’t share our signature vanilla buttercream recipe or any of our cake recipes, as those have taken me YEARS to get just right, but I would love to share a recipe for a treat that our family enjoys… Just in time for the fall season, as the air is getting a little chillier and leaves are starting to turn into breathtaking hues, here are some delicious muffins that I (Sabrina) grew up eating around the fall holidays!!!

PUMPKIN APPLE MUFFINS
2 1/2 c Flour
2 c Sugar
1 Tbsp. Pumpkin Pie Spice
1 tsp. Baking Soda
1/2 tsp. Salt
2 Eggs, slightly beaten
1 c Pumpkin (canned puree)
1/2 c Oil (I use coconut, but any light tasting oil will work)
2 c Finely Chopped Apples
Preheat oven to 350º. Line 24 muffin cups with paper liners.
In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, pumpkin pie spice, baking soda and salt.
In a separate bowl, mix together eggs, pumpkin and oil.
Add pumpkin mixture to flour mixture; stirring just to moisten. Fold in apples.
Spoon batter into prepared muffin cups.

And because we’re German, we can’t have muffins without a streusel topping!!! 😉
So, in a small bowl, mix together 2 Tbsp. flour, ¼ cup sugar and ½ tsp. cinnamon. Cut in 4 tsp. butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle topping evenly over muffin batter (about 1 teaspoon of topping per muffin)

Bake the muffins in a preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into a muffin comes out clean.
